Abies balsamea
Native Americans in Canada initiated French colonists into the many uses of the resin ("Canada balsam") of this North American fir species: as a remedy for flu, scurvy, cuts and burns. Today, the resin or sap is used mainly to treat respiratory infections and to relieve rheumatic and neuralgic pain. This oil, obtained by steam distillation from the needles of the balsam fir, has a milder and more balsamic fragrance than that of other firs. It strengthens the immune system and allows us to breathe freely again. It is also popular as an air purifier as well as a refreshing, invigorating sauna fragrance.
