The firm leaves of the myrtle species native to Australia have an intense, lemony aroma. In Australian cuisine, they are used like bay leaves. Strongly diluted, the oil has a relaxing effect, in higher doses it is rather stimulating. It is also a popular ingredient in the kitchen as an aromatic.
