Sal
Shorea robusta
The most important resin of the shamans in the Himalayas. Its smoke is very aromatic and strong. The intoxicating effect is almost overwhelming. Some shamans fall into a deep trance while burning it. Sal resin is a shamanic means of travel.
The fascinating sal resin grows abundantly in stalactite form from the deciduous tree, which can grow up to 60 metres tall. The sal tree is only located in the tropics. It grows mainly in the Terail, the Nepalese part of the jungle.
