The Yerba Santa or sacred herb has been used extensively by many North American tribes as a medicinal plant. For healing purposes, the leaves were chewed, placed on wounds, smoked or burnt as incense.
Yerba Santa develops a warm-spicy, herbaceous smoke when smoking, which is especially appreciated in healing ceremonies. The leaves were also a traditional ingredient in the sacred pipe ceremony.
